Publishing Videos to a Course Media Gallery in Blackboard

The Kaltura Media Gallery function available within both Blackboard Original and Ultra course provides a course-based repository for media, allowing faculty to collect course-related videos in a single gallery for student access. This can be used in concert with embedded media throughout the course or as the single access point for media content. 

Media can be added directly to the course Media Gallery from the creator's Kaltura Media Library, and can be organized into playlists if desired. The Media Gallery can also be configured to automatically display Kaltura videos that have been embedded elsewhere in the course.

The instructions below describe first how to create a course Media Gallery in a Blackboard course, then how to use the Media Gallery to share and organize videos.

Create a Course Media Gallery

The steps to create a Kaltura Media Gallery are slightly different in Blackboard Original and Blackboard Ultra.  Once created, Media Galleries function exactly the same in Original and Ultra.

Blackboard Original

If you do not have a left navigation item link titled "Kaltura Media Gallery," use the following instructions to create it:

1. Login to Blackboard and open the target course.
2. At the top of the left navigation menu, click the Add Menu Item + button and choose Tool Link.
3. Title the tool link "Kaltura Media Gallery," select Kaltura Media Gallery from the dropdown, and click the Available to users checkbox and click Submit.
4. Drag the link up or down in the menu if desired.

 Blackboard Ultra

1. Login to Blackboard and open the target course.
2. Hover anywhere in the Content pane (right pane), click the + icon and choose Content Market.
3. Locate the Kaltura Media Gallery panel, and click the + icon in the lower right corner of the panel to add a Kaltura Media Gallery link to your Blackboard course
4. Drag the link anywhere in the content area if desired. 
   
   

Add and Manage Media Gallery Content

Add Media to the Course Media Gallery

1. Login to Blackboard and open the desired course.
2. Click the Kaltura Media Gallery link.
3. Click the Add New button.
4. Select videos from your Kaltura Media Library to add to the Gallery, then click Publish.

Automatically Display Embedded Videos in Gallery

1. Login to Blackboard and open the desired course.
2. Click the Kaltura Media Gallery link.
3. Click the channel settings button in the top right of the Gallery and choose Edit.
4. At the bottom of the setting screen, click the checkbox next to the Display embedded media in this Media Gallery option, then click Save and Return to Media Gallery.

Create Playlists in the Course Media Gallery

Playlists allow you to group and sequence media displayed in your media gallery.  To create a playlist:

1. Login to Blackboard and open the desired course.
2. Click the Kaltura Media Gallery link.
3. Click the channel settings button in the top right of the Gallery and choose Create Channel Playlist.
4. Title your playlist and click Create.
5. Use the + buttons to add media to the playlist, drag videos to change playlist order.
6. When finished adding and sorting, click Go to Media Gallery to return to the Media Gallery page.
